Alexander Schreiber
MathWorks Senior Application Engineer

Alex Schreiber graduated at the University of Stuttgart in 1997. He holds a M. Sc. equivalent degree in Electrical Enginnering with majors in Control Design an Process Automation and specialized in ASIC/FPGA Design and Embedded System Design. He started his professional career at Avanti, formerly Compass Design Automation, designing and characterizing memory compilers on handcrafted transistor level and abstract model level. In 2000 he joined NXP Semiconductors, formerly VLSI Technology, and designed and verified functional modules of 2.75G and 3G baseband processors on RTL level. As Project Manager he was also responsible for the ASIC implementation of complex multi-core mixed-signal SoCs. Since 2008 he works as Senior Application Engineer at MathWorks focusing on the application areas of signal processing, comunication systems and analog/mixed-signal design in general and on automatic HDL code generation and verification in particular.

Algorithm prototyping and design optimization for embedded systems (HW/SW)? Integrated verification environment? Workflow efficiency improvment? Design and implementation of complex algorithms of signal processing of communication systems?

If such topics are attracting your interest, you should attend our seminar! We are demonstrating how MATLAB, Simulink and appropriate extensions can be used to design and simulate algorithms and to implement efficiently on embedded systems based on DSPs, FPGAs/ASICs or heterogeneous SoCs. – from algorithm design and system modeling via automatic code generation (C, HDL) to the verification of the design on the target HW.

Following topics will be covered in the seminar:

  • Introduction to MATLAB, Simulink and Model-Based Design
  • Algorith design for signal processing systems
  • Conversion to fixed-point arithmetic and impact analysis
  • Automatic HDL code generation and optimization
  • Automatic C code generation and target specific optimization
  • Continuous verification on different levels of abstraction

The target audience of this seminar are all engineers who currently are or in the near future will working on the implementation of algorithms on embedded systems. Any previous knowledge of the tools will be advantageous but not necessary.
