FAQ

Your computer must meet the MATLAB system requirements for your platform:

• Download Products Without Installing  |  Download products without installing them immediately or on the same computer.

Set up and manage license server, configure licenses, and deploy products to your users.

Set Up License Server

• Install License Manager on License Server  |  Install the network license manager on a license server.
• Configure License Manager as Service  |  Configure license manager as a service to manage network licenses; remove license manager as a service.
• Start and Stop Network License Manager  |  Start and stop the network license manager on the license server.

Deploy Products

Configure User Licenses

Manage License Server

Install MATLAB on personal computers and in computer labs:

1. Go to mathworks.com and sign in.
2. Click “Install MATLAB” and follow the prompts to download and install MATLAB products. (Note: For multiple installations that are all the same, you can Install Noninteractively.)
3. Select the license labeled MATLAB (Individual) when prompted.
4. Download User Guide

Users will be prompted to sign in with their University email address the first time they run MATLAB on a specific computer in a computer lab or classroom. Thereafter, they can work offline on that computer.

At each release, install the latest release on shared computers to make all new products and features available to users.

Install MATLAB on permanently offline machines

For permanently offline computers that never connect to the internet, see Install MathWorks Products on Offline Computer. Use the license labeled MATLAB (Designated Computer). The administrator of the University must assign the user to the Designated Computer license.

If you have trouble installing MATLAB products, review the following common issues that might occur during the installation process. If you continue to have problems, contact support. Provide any error messages, log files, or screenshots related to the problem in your help request.

Internet Connection Issues

If you lose your internet connection while installing, try rerunning the installer. If you continue to have connection issues, see Why do I get a connection error when installing or activating MATLAB or other MathWorks products?

tmp Folder Not Large Enough

During installation, the MathWorks installer temporarily stores files in the tmp folder of your platform. If you get an error that your tmp folder is not large enough to complete the installation, you can change where the installer stores these files. See How can I change the temp directory the MATLAB installer uses?

Licensing Issues

During installation, the license you want to select might not be listed. Or, you might be prompted to enter an Activation Key and not have the option to select a license.

• If your MathWorks Account is tied to an organization, such as a company or university, contact your IT department to get the license information needed to complete the installation.
• If your MathWorks Account is not tied to an organization, you might need to purchase a new license or get a trial from the MathWorks Store.

MATLAB Does Not Start
